More About

Ghost stories and Christmas might sound like an odd combination. However, not so long ago it was common in both the U.S. and the U.K. for families to take turns telling holiday ghost stories by the fireside. Charles Dickens's A Christmas Story is probably the most enduring and familiar tale from the era, though plenty of others came before and after its publication. In honor of this now lesser-known tradition, Hardcover Theatre is presenting a trio of seasonal spooky stories to be enjoyed by the whole family. Macabre tales include "The Water Ghost of Harrowby Hall," featuring a troublesome apparition who soaks everything in her path; "The Broken-Hearted Ghost," which explores the annoying things that happen when you live in a haunted space; and a Victorian-era screwball comedy "The Hauntings at Grantley Grange." If you haven't guessed already by the descriptions, these stories are less scary and more silly, so don't worry about nightmarish phantoms messing with the sugarplum fairies dancing in your head. Sundays, 6 p.m. Starts: Dec. 16. Continues through Dec. 30, 2012
