More About

The mourning process can be a personal experience that is oddly public in some aspects. This contradiction is demonstrated in "Memento Mori: Cartography of Grief." The exhibit features work by Minneapolis-based artist Mary Simon-Casati, which she developed after her mother's death. Faced with a stack of blank white paper, the artist began painting a series of calligraphy-style marks in black ink. After creating over 200 pieces, she folded 12 into what is a deeply personal yet public art show exploring the process of grief and the effect it has on memory. Other works on display include a ribcage-like sculpture that hangs and creates ever-changing shadows on walls, and 13 black marks mounted on wood. There will be an opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, November 30.
Nov. 27-Dec. 30, 2012
