Zenon Dance Company

For the next two weekends, Zenon celebrates turning 30 with two separate programs and seven dances by some of the company's most popular choreographers. Weekend one features two world premieres. "Hotel Tango (para Sharon)" by Mariusz Olszewski brings back the former Polish ballroom dance champ whose first work for the company, "Pink Martini," took the 1950s Latin music and dance craze through the 21st-century roof. New York choreographer Netta Yerushalmy, whose dances have been described as "like fresh hot spices... pungent, potent, head-clearing" by the Village Voice, has created "Hello, My Name Is Catherine" for the zesty Zenon dancers. Reprises of Daniel Charon's hard-driving "Storm" and Luciana Achugar's "Structures of Feeling" should keep the dancers hopping and the audience on the edge of their comfortable Cowles Center seats. Weekend two offers a welcome repeat of Olszewski's work; Danny Buraczeski's splendid jazz homage to Jelly Roll Morton, "Elegant Echoes"; Wynn Fricke's Dionysian ritual "Blessing the Earth"; and Johannes Wieland's startling, disturbing, and beautifully nuanced "Corrosion."
