There's no doubt that David Sedaris has a way with words, regardless of whether he's typing them or speaking aloud. Over the years, he has penned a handful of best-selling short-story and essay collections, including Naked, Holidays on Ice, and Me Talk Pretty One Day. He has amused listeners on This American Life with his self-deprecating and witty sense of humor. The SantaLand Diaries, his notorious essay on working as a department-store elf, which essentially launched his career when he read it over a broadcast in 1992, is now a popular play performed yearly in various cities. In his latest collection, 2010's Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary, Sedaris examined the human condition through animal characters. The result could have been cute and cloying, but in the hands of this skilled humorist the stories were insightful, relatable, a little naughty, and endearingly kind. For his talk at the Historic State Theatre, Sedaris will read from a selection of his works. He often he brings personal letters and works-in-progress to share with audiences, so you may find yourself treated to something entirely new as well. (Photo by Anne Fishbein)
