Materialized: Jerome Fiber Artist Project Grants Exhibition

In the hands and through the imaginations of fiber artists, such traditional and domestic tasks as dyeing, knitting, quilting, needle work, beading, lace making, and felting are recontexualized — often into art objects seemingly not of this world. The work of Lisa Loudon, for instance, one of the Jerome Fiber Artists showcased in the exhibition "Materialized," is almost ephemeral, except when weighed down by globular elements that give her pieces an otherworldly quality. Gay Kemmis and Kimber Olsen's abstract constructions invite closer inspection. And Mary Mortenson's jackets combine fine fabric detailing with dye patterns that blend old- and new-world sensibilities. Quite the mix. There will be an opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, November 1. (Pictured: Work by Lisa Loudon)
Nov. 1-Dec. 9, 2012
