More About

This Saturday Equilibrium, the quarterly spoken-word series showcasing artists of color, reflects on the 150th anniversary of the U.S.-Dakota War with a roundup of Native American writers featuring Tiffany Midge and Trevino L. Brings Plenty, and locals Bobby Wilson, R. Vincent Moniz Jr., Marisa Carr, Norbert Jones Jr., and DJ Nak. The event, co-curated by Bao Phi and Heid E. Erdrich, is held in collaboration with One Minneapolis, One Read, a citywide book club of sorts whose current selection is Diane Wilson's Pilot Car, an autobiographical work of the author's journey discovering the untold stories of her Dakota family. Like Pilot Car, Phi says, this Equilibrium will be a chance for Native writers, many of whom are Dakota, to explore some of the issues related to the U.S.-Dakota War and its aftermath. "We just wanted to create a space where folks can talk about these things and come together on issues without being heavy handed," Phi says. Equilibrium is celebrating its 10-year anniversary this year. (Pictured: Trevino L. Brings Plenty)
