An old cliché about standup comics is that they're cynics. But on his 2010 album, LYAO (Warner Bros.), Arj Barker sounds like he's never had a sardonic thought in his life. The masses might recognize the San Francisco native from his role as Dave in Flight of the Conchords. Others might remember his stint on season five of Last Comic Standing wherein he was just shy of making it into the top 10. While Barker might not be a household name, his genial personality and squeaky-clean material have made him one of the most reliable and successful headlining acts in the world. LYAO showcases his penchant for making the nonsensical make sense, and his ability to sell what would normally be considered ridiculous — such as blaming the sun instead of humans for global warming — over and over again. In a comedy world rife with cynicism and jaded worldviews, Barker's a breath of fresh air. 18+.
