Get ready to sort out your ompa-pa from your oo-la-la, stretch out your stein-swinging arm, and pack a reusable bag; it's time for the best locavore Oktoberfest in Minneapolis. This Saturday is Mill City Museum/Mill City Farmers' Market's sixth annual Oktoberfest, a day full of German celebration, to be held at the museum and market. J.D. Fratzke of the Strip Club in St. Paul will be on hand for a cooking demonstration at 10 a.m. The chef, whose culinary influences circle the globe, often includes a German-inspired dish on the menu as a nod to his heritage (well, German by way of Winona, Minnesota). Mike Sangiovanni, head baker for Kramarczuk's, will lead a baking demonstration at 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. There will be music courtesy of the Elk River German Band and the Jolly Huntsman. The SG Edelweiss dancers will perform throughout the morning. But it wouldn't be Oktoberfest without some beer. Local craft brew samples will be available beginning at 10 a.m. for as long as supplies last (no longer than 1 p.m.). All the while the regular local bounty from the farmers' market will be available. The museum is also hosting a few extra events indoors for just a few dollars more.
