Theatre Pro Rata starts its 12th season — and wraps up a terrific 2012 — with a play more than 350 years old. Lovers & Executioners is a rather free adaptation of Antoine Jacob de Montfleury's La Femme Juge et Partie by playwright John Strand. In it, he takes the rhyming couplets of the 17th-century original and updates them to modern verse. Director Carin Bratlie was impressed with how the language plays, and how accessible the story is centuries after it was first written. In it, Julie has been left on a deserted island by her husband. After three years, she escapes, comes back disguised as a man, and looks to wreak revenge on the person who betrayed her. The company features Noë Tallen, Jesse Corder, Katie Willer, Andy Chambers, Amber Bjork, Grant Henderson, and Ben Tallen. The play follows two strong productions by the company: T Bone N Weasel in the spring and this summer's raucous 44 Plays for 44 Presidents. It also opens another year of programming for the theater, which focuses on pieces centered on the text.
Fridays, Saturdays, 7:30 p.m.; Sundays, 3 p.m. Starts: Sept. 29. Continues through Oct. 14, 2012
