Miguel Gutierrez and the Powerful People: And lose the name of action

The Walker kicks off its new performance season with the world premiere of "And lose the name of action" by the New York-based Miguel Gutierrez & the Powerful People. As in 2008, when the company was last at the Walker, the action takes place in front of an audience seated onstage. Such intimacy reinforces the intense physicality (some of it done in the nude) and authenticity of the work in which improvisation and premeditated action keep moments fresh. "And lose the name of action" was inspired by Jørgen Leth's film The Perfect Human, as well as brain activity and 19th-century spiritualism. The iconic Ishmael Houston-Jones is part of the cast of six, which includes Gutierrez as well. (Photo by Ian Douglas)
