It's quite possible that you know comedian Bryan Callen more as an actor than a standup comic. The former MADtv cast member has been in tons of movies and TV shows: Frasier, How I Met Your Mother (where he still has a recurring role), Entourage, 7th Heaven, The Hangover, and The Hangover II, to name but a few. Not bad for a guy who never thought of himself as a stand-out actor. "I looked in the mirror one day," he explains, "and said, you know, there's nothing about me talent-wise or looks-wise that's going to get me the job. I'm not going to walk into a room and have everybody be like, 'It's Bryan Callen!'" And yet it's that every-dude persona that has worked very well in his favor, both as an actor and a comedian. Having a bit of a silly streak in him, he decided to try standup at the insistence of a friend. However, seeing Dave Attell perform one night in New York City, he felt overwhelmed. "I was blown away at how good he and the other comics were." But Callen pressed on, and his demeanor wound up serving him well in both disciplines. He continues to act regularly while headlining comedy clubs across the nation. This past spring saw the release of his hour-long special, Man Class, which is the perfect showcase of his comic sensibility. From punching cows to the lifestyles of the very wealthy, he covers it. "The rich are buying watch birds," he tells an audience. "They keep everyone off your property. When maniacs come to your house, what animal are they looking for? Dogs. What animal are they not looking for? They're not looking for a 350-pound kung-fu turkey, are they?" 18+; 21+ later shows.
