More About

It's not every day that one gets the opportunity to buy original art for a mere $99, but that is exactly what happens at the Soap Factory's popular yearly benefit, the $99 Sale. Friday night's party features over 150 artworks, all sized 8" by 10", by artists both well-established and up-and-coming. However, there's an element of surprise to the proceedings as well: There will be no celebrity bias here, as buyers won't know which artist created which piece until they purchase a work and check the signed back. Past artists have included Alec Soth, Andy DuCett, Liz Miller, and Wing Young Huie. This year's benefit celebration will include paintings, photography, comic art, and even some experiential projects such as dinner with an artist. While they shop, guests will be invited to enjoy appetizers from Chowgirl Killer Catering, wine, and Surly brews. The remaining art will be sold for $66 the following day. $30; admission is free to the second-day sale.
Fri., Sept. 14, 7-10 p.m.; Sat., Sept. 15, 9 a.m.-noon, 2012
