Love discovered and lost is a reoccurring theme in the works of Pulitzer-winning author Junot Diaz. He is following up his award-winning debut novel, The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, with This Is How You Lose Her (Riverhead Hardcover), an intertwining collection of stories featuring doomed couples, volatile family rifts, and mediocre flings. Central to the story is Yunior, a man whose affairs ultimately cheat him out of the love he so desperately wants. Diaz revisits his favored settings of New Jersey and the Dominican Republic, folding in cultural references, immigrant experiences, and the Spanish language in ways that add depth and context to characters who are unsure of what exactly it is they are searching for. Diaz manages to infuse his writing with a wicked sense of humor that is both hilariously cruel and endearing. He'll be chatting with Kerri Miller.
