Audiences in southeast Minnesota, or folks on a late-season vacation, can check out a highly lauded production by Transatlantic Love Affair from Labor Day weekend through the middle of September. Ballad of the Pale Fisherman was a hit when the movement-based company presented it at the Minnesota Fringe Festival in 2010 and again this past winter when an expanded version came to the Illusion Theater. In this recrafted Celtic folktale, a lonely fisherman falls madly in love with a selkie, or a seal woman. The company specializes in haunting versions of classic tales, as their recent Fringe Festival hit, Ash Land, proves. For this Jon Hassler production, seven of the eight original creators are back, including Anna Reichert as the Selkie, Diogo Lopes as the Fisherman, Derek Lee Miller as the Narrator, and Heather Bunch, Willie Gambucci, Adelin Phelps, and Allison Witham in the ensemble.
Fridays, Saturdays, 7:30 p.m.; Sundays, 1:30 p.m. Starts: Aug. 31. Continues through Sept. 16, 2012
