More About

Early video games were hardly epic. Pac-Man, for example, doesn't really have a compelling back story, and Centipede isn't exactly the stuff of legends. However, over the years video games have grown by leaps and bounds, not just in terms of visuals and playability, but also in the complexity of characters and the types of narratives explored. How — or if — this newer form of storytelling overlaps, affects, and expands the world of literature will be examined at Tuesday night's talk hosted by the Loft at Honey. Does a strong story have an effect on the success of a video game? Will this newer art form increasingly interact with how creative writers and storytellers approach their work? Do people who play games read books, and vice versa? Moderator Chris Fischbach will pose these questions and more to a panel of experts including Andy McNamara (editor-in-chief of Game Informer magazine), Erica Stevens (Coffee House Press and professed game enthusiast), and Reinhardt Suarez, who is teaching a video game narrative class at the Loft.
