It was an unlikely meeting, given the residential distance between the two, but last year Minnesotan Sean Smuda was introduced to Bob Bourbon of Nimes, France, on a small island in the Mississippi River. The artists hit it off, and agreed to collaborate by opening up each of their gallery spaces for special exhibitions, events, projects, and opportunities between the two cities. The project launched this past June when Smuda exhibited "Blueprint," a series of landscape photography on metal, at Bourbon's Onladejavu Gallery. The collaborative project continues this Saturday when Bourbon visits Smuda's Shoebox Gallery for "Light," a show featuring the artist's repurposed traffic lights in illuminating installations. There will be an opening reception with the artist from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, July 28.
