More About

Now that the Weisman Art Museum has settled nicely into its Frank Gehry-designed expansion, the gem of architecture and art is resuming its summer exhibitions program that focuses on Minnesota artists. This can mean almost anything, hence the exhibition's title. Drawing from its extensive collections, the Weisman curated a show wildly divergent in style, materiality, execution, and subject matter. There are ceramics by Warren MacKenzie, and Jim Denomie's fantastic historical cultural mash-ups in oil. Conversely, Thomas Pritchard Rossiter's oil of the untrammeled prairie is infused with the rich light and shadow that's an American Hudson River School signature, while photographer Paul Shambroom's inkjet print of technicians at Control Data is crammed with technological detail. Where are the women? They're here, including such historical figures as Lucia Wiley and Josephine Lutz Rollins, and contemporary artists Laura Migliorino and Vesna Kittelson. There will be a tour where some of the artists will discuss their work at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 27. (Image by wdj(0))
