Michael Somerville is often called a relationship comic. He has no problem with this, nor is he afraid of being pigeonholed. "I had an acting teacher once who said, 'The greatest thing you can do for your career is get typecast. People will keep using you.' And I've always felt the same way. As long as people like my jokes and insights on relationships, I'll keep writing about them." Somerville stumbled onto the topic early in his career. "When you first start doing comedy, you talk about everything. You write what you think is funny, and I felt audiences were gravitating toward my relationship stuff." After seeing one of his shows in New York, Glamour magazine editors offered him a gig as the publication's male relationship columnist Jake. The Fine Living network then gave him the opportunity to host the TV show Wingman. After those assignments wrapped up, he felt a void in his creative expression, so he recently started a blog called What Men Think. "It's been great," he says, "because after Glamour and Wingman people were still sending me questions and looking for insight. The blog is going fantastic, and people are really responding to it. It's nice having a weekly deadline, and something new for people to read." 18+; 21+ later shows.
