Cyndi Lauper is no stranger to the stage, as she tours to promote her music and has even had a stint in The Threepenny Opera on Broadway. Now her sound is coming to Minneapolis's Ritz Theater. Lauper's latest release, Memphis Blues, will set the tone for the Ballet of the Dolls' show of the same name. Nominated for a Grammy Award, the album is a departure from her iconic pop-star image. The sultry tunes, which feature B.B. King, Jonny Lang, and others, provide the perfect backdrop for the Dolls as they bring Lauper's new sound to life through ballet. Artistic director Myron Johnson received the pop icon's personal blessing to use her music for this all-new dance work based in the emotional depths of the blues. Inspired by her versatility, Johnson took Lauper as inspiration to combine the complex world of traditional blues with contemporary dance. Ballet of the Dolls doesn't mess around with re-staging fresh, innovative works, and this show will be no exception.
