More About

Korean artist Minouk Lim's first U.S. exhibition features three immersive, multidisciplinary environments integrating documentary video that comments on modernization in Korea. In one, a poet raps about a new housing development and those who live there. Another captures boat-cruise passengers as they view performances on the riverbanks (think Ann Carlson and Mary Ellen Strom's train trip "Geyserland" through Bozeman Pass). In a third piece, an infrared camera displays the body heat emanating from "pilgrims" traveling to restricted construction sites. Which brings us to Lim's protective, wearable sculptures, made of thermofoam and other materials. On opening night, Minneapolis choreographer Emily Johnson joins Lim in a free one-night-only performance, "Fire Cliff 3," in which Lim's works and Johnson's sensibilities collaboratively address the role of nature, imagination, and myth in the 21st century. The opening reception and performance is at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 31. (Photo courtesy of the artist and PKM Gallery)
