Keigwin + Company

New York-based choreographer Larry Keigwin knows how to turn a mishap into an opportunity: He's creating a dance for 12 chairs, which will premiere at the Cowles Center for Dance, while recovering from Achilles tendon surgery. Keigwin's blend of artistry and entertainment should be just right for a hot June night. The New York Times described his 2009 work "Megalopolis" as "...alive with a steady stream of haughty poses, Fritz Masten's lively sequined costumes, and some heart-pumping music (Steve Reich and M.I.A.)." Filling out the evening are the fashion-inspired "Runway" and the human sexuality-inspired "Mattress Suite," six short dances to music ranging from opera to pop. (Photo by Matthew Murphy)
