Last week marked the start of Canterbury Park's 2012 season. This weekend, the horses will hit the track once again for suspenseful, high-stakes racing (or just entertainment, if you're not the betting type). Many of the evenings are themed, which adds to the fun. For example, there are drink deals and live music on Fridays, family-friendly activities and free pony rides on Sundays, and Buck Night, which features $1 admission and treats when Thursday-night racing begins next month (starting June 14). Other events include a food truck festival (Saturday, June 23), Fourth of July fireworks (Tuesday, July 3), and Extreme Race Day (Saturday, July 21), where camels and ostriches take to the track in ridiculous feats of speed — or slow ambling races full of distraction.
