More About

Minneapolis native Michael Crouser creates photographs of evocative light and shadow, rich with tension and tranquility. Whether capturing the feral rough-and-tumble of dogs playing in a park (a series called "Dog Run" that began with a Great Dane at Lake of the Isles), or the craggy faces and landscapes of rural Spain ("Sin Tiempo"), Crouser shoots with Tri-X film, which he then manipulates in the darkroom for maximum effect. This mid-career retrospective, fresh from the Leica Gallery in New York, includes work from two other series as well. "Los Toros" is the result of Crouser's 15-year curiosity with bullfighting. "Mountain Ranch" explores cattle ranching in the Colorado mountains. Also opening is "Little Known Days," Ben Heyer's fetching photographic constructions. There will be an opening reception from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, May 18.
