Zenon Dance Company's 29th Spring Season

The wildly rambunctious Zenon Dance Company reprises two of its most popular works this spring. Mariusz Olszewski's "Pink Martini," a campy, smoldering tribute to 1950s Latin music stylings by the likes of Pérez Prado and Rosemary Clooney, had audiences hooting in adulation at its premiere last fall. "Booba," by New York phenom Andrea Miller, rides the waves of music by Balkan Beat Box — a Mediterranean fusion group that mixes Jewish klezmer, Balkan folk, hip hop, and other forms — with élan. Wynn Fricke's new "Wine Dark Sea" explores our connection to the elemental power of the sea, with live music by percussive genius Peter O'Gorman. Morgan Thorson's "All Parts Are Welcome" focuses on Thorson's no-nonsense urge "to stare down our most conflicted feelings about life through dance and say goodbye to all of those who can't get on board" with her unique sampling of smarts, sly wit, and theatrical savvy. Innovative choreography aside, the best reason to go is the world-class Zenon dancers, who can rock with every dance style under the sun. (Photo by William Cameron)
