Chillwave maven Neon Indian has graduated to the Mainroom a mere six months after selling out the Entry. But while albums by Neon Indian have a distinct, captivating quality to them, Alan Polomo's buoyant, synth-laden pop songs still need to find a bit more soul and substance to translate as well in a live setting. Polomo's recent record, Era Extraña, has a bit more polish and texture than its well-received electropop predecessor, Psychic Chasms, which shows that he is continually in the process of experimenting and evolving his diaphanous sound. Hopefully his current live arrangements reflect that growth and expansion, so his upbeat sonic flourishes don't get lost within the spacious confines of First Ave. 18+
