More About

Of all the parades that regularly march around town each year, the MayDay Parade is easily the most surreal and unusual. After all, where else can you watch a black crow the size of an automobile, an enormous smiling sun, and a winged mermaid on stilts make their way down the road? The spectacle will return this Sunday. Over the past month, community members and folks at In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre have worked hard preparing costumes, floats, and creatures for the event, which will culminate with the Tree of Life Ceremony welcoming the return of spring. During the afternoon, festival-goers will be able to enjoy food from vendors, take in performances on a solar-powered stage, pick up info on new initiatives in Minneapolis, and find ways to get involved in neighborhood sustainability. The parade begins at 1 p.m. at the intersection of Bloomington Avenue and 26th Street, and travels south down Bloomington to Powderhorn Park. Visit www.hobt.org for more information. Due to rain, the festival has moved from Sunday, May 6 to Sunday, May 13. (Photo by Bruce Silcox)
