More About

Traffic Zone's annual Spring Open Studios event is, by now, a seasonal rite of passage. A who's who of arts patrons, aficionados, artists, and hangers-on emerge from their cold-weather hideouts wearing perennial black or a new spring frock, trailing an entourage or with a new boy or girlfriend in hand, regaling a gaggle of friends with stories of the winter gone by or air-kissing as they pass in the hall. The people-watching, in other words, is terrific. Then there's the art, such as: Harriet Bart's never-to-be-missed sculptures with tremendous political and aesthetic resonance, Howard Oransky's absorbing large-scale patterns, Bonnie Heller's color-saturated still-life paintings, Lisa Nankivil's thrillingly striated abstractions, Jon Neuse's muted monotypes, and Jodi Reeb-Myers's enthusiastic abstractions of color, material, and form. Walk into their studios and have a chat, or examine their work in the gallery exhibition "Art by Impulse." Either way, you'll want to stay awhile. There will be a public reception and open studio event from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, May 5. (Jodi Reeb-Myers, At the Horizon)
