Spiritualized linchpin Jason Pierce has gone through hell while recording his last two records. He nearly died from a severe case of bilateral pneumonia in 2005 while writing the material that would become the appropriately titled Songs in A&E, and the just-released Sweet Heart Sweet Light follows a degenerative liver disease that a heavily medicated Pierce barely survived. But the songs that he crafted out of these experiences have made his fans all the more thankful that Pierce is still making music. Spiritualized's bold, provocative recent output stands proudly alongside their stone-cold classic, Ladies and Gentleman We Are Floating in Space, and their always enthralling live shows consistently blend songs from the band's impressive back catalog while also giving hints as to what direction Pierce is going to take their sound next. Spiritualized's releases and tours have grown increasingly infrequent due to Pierce's recent health concerns and his hazy brand of perfectionism, so you better see them while you still have a chance. 18+.
