This weekend, Laurie Van Wieren continues to expand her curatorial expertise, much to the benefit of the Twin Cities dance and performance art community. Van Wieren was the Southern Theater's dance curator before its demise; she also founded and runs the monthly 9x22 Dance/Lab, which showcases new work at the Bryant-Lake Bowl Theater. So, yes, she knows her stuff. Now she's taken on the SCUBA National Touring Network for Dance (also formerly at the Southern). SCUBA is a consortium of contemporary dance presenters across the country who collaboratively provide emerging artists with an entry point for professional touring. This year, Angharad Davies is the Minneapolis performer who will tour with the group after performing here with Seattle representative Allie Hankins, who "explores image-making and the codification of body language as a choreographic catalyst." Hankins performs a solo, "Like a Sun That Pours Forth Light but Never Warmth." Davies has made a trio, "Emotional Genius," with Megan Mayer, Maggie Bergeron, and Rachel Freeburg. With these shows, SCUBA also celebrates its 10th anniversary.
