Light Grey Art Lab, a new gallery located near the MIA and MCAD, isn't messing around with its latest show. For "Pokemon Battle Royale," artists were invited to create works inspired by the popular children's television series and video-game franchise. On display will be 151 pieces from local, national, and international artists, each one featuring one tiny warrior from the original Pokemon series, including the iconic Pikachu, the doe-eyed Jigglypuff, chronic anxiety sufferer Psyduck, and the somewhat obscure Staryu (imagine a bedazzled starfish or ninja star). Yes, the works are all freakin' adorable, colorful, and eye-catching, and fans of the pop-culture phenom will surely enjoy catching them all as the gallery space turns into a giant Pokedex. There will be an opening reception from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, April 20.
