MPR's radio broadcast/live comedy chat show aims to make unlikely pairings of comedy-savvy performers and musicians with a penchant for cleverness, but this weekend's duo has actually appeared onstage together in the Twin Cities previously. In 2010 Reggie Watts and Andy Richter were both part of Conan O'Brien's Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television live tour during his TV hiatus following the Tonight Show fiasco. Since then, Richter has returned to the talk-show fold to reclaim his mantle as TV's funniest sidekick, but his impressive and varied career has also found him fronting his own shows, including Andy Barker, P.I. and the Emmy-nominated series Andy Richter Controls the Universe. Watts is a multi-talented performer who uses a loop pedal to beatbox on-the-spot wry riffs on hip hop. He's released several CDs, scored episodes of the acclaimed sitcom Louie, and is an Andy Kaufman Award winner. His largely improvised standup style should make him a perfect fit for the free-associative hilarity of Wits, led by host John Moe and musical guide John Munson.
