Discourse Karaoke

At Discourse Karaoke folks will be invited to voice their frustrations, hopes, and dissent through karaoke. The event is part of the Walker Art Center's Discourse and Discord, a three-day festival featuring lectures, parties, experiments, and workshops exploring agonism, a term referencing the value of disagreement and differing opinions as a part of democracy. At Wing Young Huie's Third Place Gallery, folks will be invited to talk politics, or, if they prefer, sing about it with a song list curated by karaoke emcee Steph Pituc. Tunes available will range from anthemic songs of subversion to Fourth of July-worthy patriotic tunes. Will you choose a classic protest song from the archives of Bob Dylan or Woody Guthrie? Or do you prefer more modern tunes from the likes of Rage Against the Machine, Green Day, or the Black Eyed Peas? There will be beer and wine available for those who need a bit of liquid courage before they take the mic. (Photo by Wing Young Huie)
