Can the mundane be made epic? According to Amy Toscani, the answer is yes. The artist describes her work as a "mix of fantasy and 4-H." One definitely gets a sense of grand whimsy while gazing upon her large-scale abstract sculptures. Imagine pieces that look like they were modeled after homemade potholders, Lincoln Logs, tinfoil Christmas ornaments, and other toys and crafts from the '60s and '70s — if they were bigger than your head. The resulting pieces are endearing in their affection toward Midwestern eras past, are undeniably eye-catching, and can hold their own against any plexiglass roadside sculpture. There will be an opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 7.
