Gentlemanly sophistication is timeless. Sleek elegance—a 1962 Jaguar E-Type hugging a hairpin turn, a Connery-era James Bond cocking an eyebrow, a glass of fine Scotch—will never go out of fashion. And the more that craft cocktails are revitalized, the more it seems that drinkers are casting an eye backward for ideas. With Scotch, there's no need to look further than a solidly built tumbler. Prohibition Bar in the Foshay Tower is practiced in the art of classic elegance. The room, which was once the private getaway for Wilbur Foshay, has been transformed into a skyward reaching speakeasy. This Wednesday, the space will host a tasting dubbed Men of Distinction. Scotch from the Laphroaig Distillery will be served, as well as a few complimentary bites from Chef Josh Hill. To complete the Don Draper-esque ambiance, Maria Caram from International Cigars will be rolling stogies by hand. Laphroaig (pronounced leFROYG, which might be easier to say after a couple) is one of the strongest flavored whiskeys available. Whisky Magazine describes it as "continuous gentle waves of dry peat lap upon the tastebuds but are balanced by a sweet malt middle and the most hesitant of vanillas." To ensure your standing as a man of distinction, it's best not to repeat that description verbatim. 21+.
