Balletomanes, take heart. At long last, a work by golden boy Christopher Wheeldon—speculation continues as to whether or not he is George Balanchine's heir apparent—will finally be performed in the Twin Cities. The Houston Ballet returns this weekend, courtesy of Northop Dance Season, with the 2003 "Rush." Writing in DanceViewWest, Rita Felciano said the work "surprised with its freshness and conventionality." The piece has "classical hierarchy" (five couples as both corps and in duets, with a pas de deux at the center of the work), but also "splatters and explodes symmetry and order." Anticipation mounts. Also on Houston's Friday program are "ONE/end/ONE" by Jorma Elo and "Indigo" by the company's artistic director Welch. On the Saturday program is "In the Night" by the incomparable Jerome Robbins. Marvelous lineups to be sure, but Wheeldon's "Rush" is the real draw. (Photo by Amitava Sarkar)
