More About

The weather may have warmed up over the past week, but this installment of History of Hip will still be full of chills. As major fans of horror flicks know, scary movies—be they about zombies, serial killers, or ghosts—are rarely just about what they appear to be on the surface. The themes and narratives presented usually speak to darker, more sinister fears, paranoia, and insecurities lurking in the the shadows of the subconscious. For Scary Movie Night, Bryant-Lake Bowl's Salon Saloon host Andy Sturdevant will dissect classic flicks such as Rosemary's Baby and Night of the Living Dead, decoding exactly what is is that makes them so terrifying. The talk will also cover sub-genres within the world of horror, and what future freaky movies may bring to the big screen (and our nightmares). Filmmaker Sam Thompson will also stop by to talk about his latest work, Living Arrangements, which follows the adventures of vegan roommates who discover that the tenant living in the attic is a werewolf. After the talk, Ian Rans (Drinking with Ian) will invite guests to stay for movie-themed bar games and trivia. 21+. (Pictured: Living Arrangements)
