Light/Dark Show: Isolating the Senses

There's no denying that we live in an era of over-stimulation. Cell phones allow us to be in constant communication with work, family, and friends no matter where we are. Portable music devices the size of a matchbox hold over 10,000 songs, movies, and games, and keep us entertained during workouts and travel. A quick surf through the internet usually involves shutting out dozens of advertisers, all yelling at us with flashing lights. For one night only, "Light/Dark Show" will invite guests to experience a world of sensory deprivation. For the first half of the reception, visitors will be asked to remain in complete silence as they take in the visual arts on display in the group show. Next, folks will be led into complete darkness, where they will listen to music and audio installation pieces. Afterward, artists will be on hand for a brief chat. As usual, the Third Place Gallery will follow its party with karaoke and ping pong until 12:30 a.m. Free. 7 to 9 p.m. (Colin Kopp, Malibu)
Sat., March 17, 7-9 p.m., 2012
