Bosso Poetry Company is a collective of poets and musicians that has been hosting monthly showcases since 2008. Their purpose: to provide fun, free access to poetry in a quirky, offbeat way (while throwing back a couple of beers, of course). The group began when founder and emcee Kevin Brixius brought together "a handful of performers and poets he truly appreciated," says longtime member Jeffrey Skemp. "We have a bit of a party, and put on a show." But don't get the wrong idea: Bosso takes its poetry and music seriously. Thursday night's performance will feature many group members, such as poets Skemp and Michael Hall, and singer-songwriters Dylan Baker, Dave Monson, and Venus DeMars (of All the Pretty Horses). This month's showcase will also feature special guests Unguided, a rock band made up of Kurt Allis, Tim Behm, and Benjamin Durrant and JG Everest of Roma di Luna. Their newest album, Visible from Space, was released just last month. The night will also include local author, poet, and spoken-word artist Ed Bok Lee, whose most recent collection of poems, Whorled (Coffee House Press), was just nominated for a Minnesota Book Award.
