Ryan Singer is positively hilarious—emphasis on the "positively." "A few years ago an ex-girlfriend helped me realize I could be funnier the less miserable I was. I realized, 'Wow, there can be more and deeper laughs when you come from love as opposed to hate.' Hate can get some great laughs, but especially the last six months to a year have been me really transforming into this person who understands...this is cool, to be alive." Singer's unique, sometimes cerebral approach has earned him industry accolades and awards, and buzz for his debut album, How to Get High Without Drugs, as well as the support of tastemaker Marc Maron, who regularly works with Singer and features him on the popular WTF podcast. "On the road I might be considered an alternative comic, but here in L.A. when I do alternative venues I'm considered more of a road comic," Singer explains. "I think the perfect example of my comedy, what I've become now: Most people hate traffic, but I'm a guy who thinks, 'Wow, 99.9 percent of the time I got into a vehicle with a specific reason to go somewhere, I got there.' Only one or two times have I had to turn back around and go back home. We're doing pretty good, as humans. We're doing it, we're making it!"
