Even though he always wanted to be a comedian, it took Brent Weinbach a while to finally give it a try. "A friend encouraged me to do it," he explains. "He'd been doing it for about a year in San Francisco, and I got involved that way." Inspired by Harpo Marx, late-'90s Saturday Night Live, and radio personality Joe Frank, Weinbach's comedy is an eclectic blend of somewhat bizarre jokes, stories, and deadpan delivery. The former school teacher approaches comedy very simply. "There's no subject matter that's my favorite," he says. "I like anything that's funny, really. I'm mostly interested in things that don't require a lot of thought, that are pretty stupid, silly, and absurd." Weinbach is also a musician, and while he has been known to toss off a number now and then, his musical pursuits are more straight-forward. "For some reason it's hard for me to combine that with comedy," he says. "Music is a more serous side of me. Then again, my standup is a serious side of me, too." 18+. (Photo by Seth Olenick)
