Most of the time, fans of art see only the final product. Rarely do artists lift the creative curtain to reveal the process that took them from idea to execution to finished work, a journey most likely filled with failures, embarrassments, and glorious "a-ha!" moments along the way. But much like listening to a DVD commentary or taking a gallery tour, learning a little bit about an artist's behind-the-scenes efforts can be highly illuminating. For Altered Esthetics' latest group show, "Resident Artists VIII: In Process," folks will be able to explore sketchbooks, photos of unfinished work, and preliminary drawings, taking them through the artistic experience from point A to point B. Works in progress include large-scale murals, paintings, drawings, and more. For even more insight, there will also be an artists' discussion panel at 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 21.
