More About

Eleven art department chairs (all women) from as many institutions in the greater Twin Cities, and their chosen collaborators (whether students or alumni), intersect in this ambitious project of evocative, provocative, dazzling, and dynamic new works at MCAD. As Karen Wirth, artist and MCAD's interim vice president of academic affairs, writes in the exhibition catalog, the process was integral to the end product: "Established artists/teachers let go of their set practices, and students and recent alumni explored unfamiliar directions. As the relationship between teacher and student intertwined, collaboration dissipated hierarchical roles." Works range from the haunting photography of Linda Rossi (Carleton College) and Alec Soth, to Lynda Monick-Isenberg (College of Visual Arts) and Alyssa Baguss's intricate memento mori pencil drawings. There will be an opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 20, plus gallery talks at noon on Thursday, February 2, and at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 15.
