Character in Costume: A Jack Edwards Retrospective

During his career, which has spanned over 50 years, costume and couture designer Jack Edwards has worked with many iconic heavy hitters. He dressed Katherine Hepburn in Coco, a Broadway musical about fashion powerhouse Coco Chanel. He worked with Bob Mackie on the Carol Burnett Show. He designed clothing for Prince. Minnesotans may also recognize Edwards's work creating costumes for the Guthrie Theater and designing the holiday shows at downtown Minneapolis's Dayton's. He's also responsible for the costumes used in the original Holidazzle Parade. For "Characters in Costume," curators Tim Carroll and Liseli Polivka will take a closer look at Edwards's career—from Broadway to Hollywood to national television to Minneapolis—with playbills, design sketches, photography, and 30 original costumes. Edwards is now mostly retired, but still living in high fashion in St. Paul. The opening reception is from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 20.
