More About

Juxtaposition, often a key concept in art, will be an important factor in "Lace and Gunpowder." For the show, artists have been paired with other artists working in the same medium, but of a different gender. Their pieces will be presented side by side. Yet instead of presenting a trite battle of the sexes, the art invites guests to explore the differences and similarities to be found in each grouping of work. Do those differences speak to gender? How do preconceived notions affect your interpretation of each piece? The answers may not be what you'd expect. Paired artists include Tina Blondell and Nicholas Harper, Karen Searle and David Aschenbrener, Lynn Speaker and John Schuerman, and Kim Matthews and Ron Taylor. The opening reception is from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 13. There will be an artist talk and panel discussion at 7 p.m. Thursday, February 9.
