Hang on to your purses ladies, because interesting things happen when Kjell Bjorgen steps onstage. The Minnesota native began his career in Los Angeles 12 years ago. His undeniable talent was quickly recognized, and he spent a significant portion of the aughts touring the country, including opening for Lewis Black. Thousands of miles and hundreds of clubs, bars, theaters, and festivals later, he's back home and he's sick of talking about himself. His solution has been to talk about everybody else, or, failing that, to gleefully rifle through the audience's belongings (with permission, of course). The process of transitioning an act that in the past has included plenty of autobiographical material to more of an improvisational examination of our shared weirdness is fascinating to watch. To many performers, interacting with the strangers assembled before them is a nightmare scenario. To Bjorgen, it's just another way that he happily marches against the tide. He's of that rare breed of standup comic who can honestly say that he puts on a different show every night. His devotion to working the crowd isn't for a lack of jokes, however. His prepared material shows an uncanny eye for those critical details that make solid premises sing. Every move he makes is animated by a style of goofiness that manages to simultaneously be low-key and barely contained. 18+.
