Garrison Keillor

Folks looking to get into the holiday spirit with a good book need look no further than this literary event at the Virginia Swedenborgian Church. Here, Garrison Keillor will be reading from his latest novel, A Christmas Blizzard (Penguin). The story follows James Sparrow, an energy-drink tycoon who is feeling a bit out of sorts as his wife is looking forward to seasonal festivities while he can't wait for them to pass. After he returns to his rural hometown of Looseleaf, North Dakota, to deal with urgent family matters, he is soon snowed in. With random guests and no electricity, he finds himself compelled to reevaluate his Scrooge-like hostility toward the holidays. If you're expecting a bitter ending, then you're the type who gets a lump of coal in your stocking each Christmas. December has been an exciting month for Garrison Keillor, as he recently announced that he would be teaming up with Macalester College to move his independently run shop, Common Good Books, to the Mac-Groveland neighborhood. It will be interesting to see what the new year brings. (Photo by Claudia Danielson)
