The Ordway heads into the holidays with a slightly different tactic, presenting a classic, magical Rodgers and Hammerstein musical for the Christmas season. Cinderella began its life on television in 1957, drawing more than 100 million viewers (a record at the time) to watch Julie Andrews play the title role. The piece was revised for additional televised productions, and eventually brought to the stage. The musical features a string of classic Rodgers and Hammerstein songs, such as "In My Own Little Corner" and "Impossible." The Ordway production stars Jessica Fredrickson in the title role and Jeremiah James as the Prince. Others in the cast include Wendy Lehr, Greta Grosch, Tonia Hughes, and Reid Harmsen. The piece is directed by Nick Degruccio, and features choreography by Bob Richard and music direction from Raymond Berg. "We wanted to do something that would be magical for the holidays—something that twinkled like the lights in Rice Park," says James A. Rocco, Ordway's producing artistic director. "I can't speak for everyone, but it's been a tough year for a lot of people I know. We are hoping the show will give people a glow. The show reminds us that life can be surprising, and sometimes your deepest dreams can come true." The magic isn't just in the theater.
