Waka Flocka Flame

If you want to see a hip-hop purist's brow furrow, just bring up Waka Flocka Flame. Last year's Flockaveli was a cult smash among rap bloggers, and the Georgia star proved resiliently memetic; even PETA wanted him to pose for ads. Still, lingering apprehension over Flocka's deemphasis on lyricism for the sake of simplistic, hook-heavy bounce means some older heads have pegged him as a symptom of what's wrong with commercial rap these days. But few rappers out there do a better job of justifying the idea of a the mic as a blunt-force impact weapon, and Lex Luger-produced singles like "Hard in da Paint" and "Fuck This Industry" are some of the most berserk, no-compromise get-amped anthems to come out of the South in the last few years. His upcoming Triple F Life: Friends, Fans and Family aims to shake things up a bit -- pop-friendly stars like Drake, Diddy and Chris Brown are slated to have guest spots -- but as long as there's at least a few Flockaveli-caliber tracks that feel purpose-engineered to replicate the effects a 4Loko bender, it'll all work out. 18+ (Photo by Donna Permell)
