Believe it or not, there's more to dance than what can be seen in the Step Up movie franchise. There are emotions to be found in the art of body movement not tied to lust, grandstanding, or punking. As hard as this might be to comprehend, understanding the art—to crack movements open and peer inside to the essence of the form—is always worth the time. With that in mind, attending this week's "9x22 Dance/Lab" at the Bryant-Lake Bowl could serve to teach you a thing or two about the hidden intentions of this esoteric bodycraft. Not only will you witness magnificent dances, you will also be privy to (and, if you're brave, potentially be part of) a discussion led by local choreographer, performer, and producer Laurie Van Wieren. Tonight's dances have been lovingly created by guest choreographers Chris Yon, Laralee Whittle, and the BodyCartography Project. After each dance, the audience will be invited to explore the piece through conversation with the moderator and choreographers. $6-$12 sliding scale.
