Just when public radio starts to take itself too seriously, a little wit from David Sedaris will be injected into the programming, and balance is restored yet again. This Saturday, folks can get a whole serving of his irresistibly biting and sarcastic brand of social humor. The prolific humorist has more bestselling books under his belt than Oprah, and past publications have included Me Talk Pretty One Day, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, and The SantaLand Diaries. His most recent work, Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk, is a collection of short fables told from the viewpoint of animals. For those of you wondering if Sedaris's wit translates well to the perspectives of our furry friends, the answer is yes, it does (and with surprising ease). Simple, short, and packed with real-life comical situations played out by cats, warblers, and chickens, the collection has the author's clear, unmistakable voice throughout, along with fantastic illustrations by Ian Falconer. Sedaris's endearing, nasal voice can be heard on NPR's This American Life, his essays are often spotted in top-notch publications like The New Yorker, and his books are everywhere. He even co-writes plays with his equally hilarious (and raunchier) sister Amy Sedaris under the guise of "The Talent Family." There will be a book signing with the author following his talk, so bring your Sedaris library. (Photo by Anne Fishbein)
